& Midge
Schmitgen
Harley
and Midge create woodcarvings in various carving styles. They have relocated
their place of residence and carving studio to Branson, MO from Blue Earth,
MN where Harley had been a life long resident. He has been in the
art field for more than 50 years, working with stone, designing, carving
and selling memorials and teaching woodcarving in his spare time. Midge
joined him in 2001 in the monument business helping out with the art work.
Harley had been teaching wood carving seminars for over 20 years
prior to this time. He was inducted into the Caricature Carvers
of America in 1991 and took emeritus in the fall of 2008. Midge
was an oil painter in the art field and had been carving for over 4 years.
In 2001 they decided to team up together and team teach woodcarving.
Harley Specializes in the Santa's, Mt. men, Indians, human busts
and caricatures, while Midge prefers the animals. They both design
and carve that first block of wood that then goes to the roughout man
to duplicate it for the students to carve. In seminars each student
may choose a different project from their lineup to carve. Not everyone
has to do the same thing.
They offer 2 days, 3 days and longer seminars.
They
