Harley
and Midge create relief woodcarvings and in-the-round wood-carvings at
their studio in South-Central, MN in a town called Blue Earth with a population
of around 4,000 people. Harley has been in the art field for over 40 years
working with stone, carving, designing and selling memorials. Midge joined
him in 2001 helping out with the art work. Harley has been teaching woodcarving
for over 20 years in his spare time. They began team teaching the art
of woodcarving around the country in 2001.
Harley specializes in human busts, Santas and caricatures. He was inducted
into the Caricature Carvers of America in 1991 and took emeritus in the
fall of 2008. Midge is also a well rounded carver, but she prefers
carving animals, anywhere from large animal faces to full figure animals
carved in the round. She also is in charge of teaching you her style
of painting if time permits. There is no painting offered in a 2
or 2 1/2 day seminar. Painting is only offered in seminars three
days or longer. Harley and Midge teach 3 week long seminars in Bronson,
Mo. every year plus shorter club seminars around the country as time permits.
